Monte Viso

If you are on any of the big peaks of the Valais and look to the south you will see a perfect pyramid, that is Monte Viso. Monte Viso sits on the border between France and Italy east of Torino at 3841m it stands 500m higher than any of its neighbours this gives a great feeling of space with amazing views in all directions. There are 2 classic routes on Monte Viso the East Ridge (AD 1200m) and the South Face (PD 1000m) both offer great challenges with good rock and great climbing.

We would like to suggest a 3 day trip to the area. We will start by walking up to the Rifugio Giacoletti and climbing the East ridge on Punta Udine AD then walk across to the  Rifugio Quintino Sella We can then climb the east ridge or the south face the following day before heading back to the valley. There are lots of other climbing option in the area or you could combine this with an ascent of the Gran Paradiso to combine climbing 2 of Italy’s most famous mountains.
